What is SSH Tunnel?
SSH tunneling, or SSH port forwarding, is a technique for securely transporting data over an encrypted SSH connection. It provides a way to enhance the security of legacy applications and establish secure VPNs (Virtual Private Networks). By utilizing SSH, you can tunnel any TCP/IP port, ensuring encrypted data transmission across potentially untrusted networks.
Benefits of SSH Tunneling
- Encrypts data traffic for increased security.
- Enables access to intranet services through firewalls.
Using SSH Direct in ZIVPN
SSH Direct is a feature in the ZIVPN app that allows you to use SSH tunneling for secure data transmission. You have two methods to configure and use SSH Direct:
1. In-App Free SSH Account
Follow these steps to get a free SSH account directly from the ZIVPN app:
- Access the Server List: Double-click on the field in the ZIVPN app's main interface where "user:pass@ip:port" hints are shown. A dropdown server list will appear.
- Watch an Ad: Select the server location you want to access and watch the ad. You will receive a free SSH account with 1-day validity. This account supports multiple tunneling methods, including SSH, SlowDNS, Stunnel, and WebSocket Tunnel.
- Server Locations: To get an account for a different server location, watch an ad for that specific location.
- Using Your SSH Account: The account details will be automatically configured for you. For SSH Direct Tunnel (Port 22), simply connect using the provided SSH account. No additional configuration is needed.

2. Create an SSH Direct Account Through Any SSH Provider
If you prefer, you can create an SSH Direct account through any SSH provider. Here’s how:
- Account Creation: Select a server location near you, choose a username and password, and create your SSH account.
- Configure in ZIVPN: Enter the account information in the ZIVPN app's SSH authentication text field using the "user:pass@ip:port" format.
